    The soft version – soft being the choice of most dentists – offers more flexible fibres. Soft bristles can lose their shape more quickly, thus requiring more regular substitution than the medium head.

    Tapered heads allow an interdental massage. The cluster of bristles is cut back across half of the surface to allow the fibres to reach in between the gum-line. Tapered heads can cause some gum sensitivity during the first few days of brushing, in the same way flossing does.
